Our very cute baby elephant has been hand knitted from rare breed Shetland wool making him incredibly soft and cuddly!!
He has traveled a long way with his family and distant relatives who come from both Africa, where they are now listed as a vulnerable species, and Asia where they are now endangered. The two biggest threats to the elephant population is the ivory trade as the animals are poached for their ivory tusks and habitat destruction.
All elephants have several distinctive features the most notable of which is a long trunk or proboscis, used for many purposes, particularly breathing, lifting water and grasping objects. Their incisors grow into tusks, which can serve as weapons and as tools for moving objects and digging. Elephants’ large ear flaps help to control their body temperature. Their pillar-like legs can carry their great weight. African elephants have larger ears and concave backs while Asian elephants have smaller ears and convex or level backs.
Our little elephant, a baby as he has no tusks, measures just 9 inches and has the most appealing expression with our famous hand made glass eyes and cute flappy ears.
Our elephants are very keen for you to know that they have glass eyes. Although very beautiful and hand made, these eyes can be dangerous for babies and small children. We are always happy to embroider the eyes for you so please remember to select this option when ordering.
