Jacob

There is only one truly and distinctly spotted sheep. The Jacob have a characteristic white blaze on the face and a tendency to develop more dark patches at the front of their body than at the back. Most Jacob sheep have a few large dark patches, while others are almost like Dalmatian dogs with many small spots.

Despite their decorative appearance, Jacob sheep are hardy and whilst they are a minority breed, since The Rare Breed Survival Trust was established in 1974, they have become a success story with over 2,000 registered ewes.

Jacob wool is naturally black, chocolate and white but the fleece can be mixed during spinning to create light, medium and dark grey shades and browns too. The fleeces are fine and soft making them ideal for hand spinning and, of course, for really soft teddy bears.
